Hands-on leadership for extraordinary projects, both internationally and across Germany, at the intersection of design, technology and physical realisation.
ART+COM develops interactive experiences, exhibitions, kinetic sculptures and media spaces worldwide – projects that have never existed in quite this form before. To make them happen, we bring together design, software, technology, architecture, engineering and external specialists. Hardly any two projects are alike; many combine artistic ambition with bespoke technology and are seen by audiences around the world.
As Project Director, you will lead these projects, develop people and help shape how ART+COM works and grows. You understand creative visions, represent ART+COM externally, work hands-on with our project managers and advise the managing team on project and organisational matters.
Your role
You take responsibility for projects, people and decisions. When projects become complex or come under pressure, you remain calm, clear and effective, recognise the hidden risks early and address difficult issues directly.
In practice, you will:
- lead complex projects in Germany and internationally from early definition through installation and handover, managing scope, budget, schedule, risks, quality and project outcomes;
- work hands-on with our project managers on live projects, reviewing their plans and contracts and supporting them in important situations;
- represent ART+COM in client, partner and negotiation meetings and handle international contracts, changes, variations and formal correspondence with confidence;
- bring creative and technical teams together, develop project managers and take responsibility for critical projects or workstreams when needed;
- work with the managing team to develop roles, capabilities and the relationship between project management and producing.
What you bring
We are looking for an experienced professional with at least ten years of experience, a proven track record of leading complex international projects and a clear willingness to take responsibility.
- You know from experience how projects like ours work – from creative vision and technical development through fabrication, installation, clients and external partners.
- You are highly skilled in project management, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, risk and change management, documentation and escalation, and you are confident in international contract and negotiation settings.
- You have led, developed or coached project managers or multidisciplinary teams.
- You are open to technology and bring strong digital fluency. You can engage with new systems and technology-enabled ways of working, assess their relevance to projects and work confidently with technical specialists.
- You lead in a calm, clear and dependable way: you facilitate without avoiding difficult issues and make decisions without unnecessary escalation.
- Excellent English and at least B2-level German are required
- Willingness to travel internationally and to be regularly present in Berlin.
Your background should be in an environment where complex creative, technical, spatial or physical projects are developed – for example experience design, exhibitions, architecture, media-based installations, creative technology or specialised production.
